Mum’s the word
If experiencing food insecurity wasn’t tough enough, imagine having to keep it a secret from your children, friends and colleagues too.
Millions of people in the UK are quietly struggling to put food on the table and the secrecy around it is more common than you think. It means making difficult food choices, feeling the hidden stress of budgeting every penny and experiencing the emotional weight of keeping it all to yourself.
We asked a few of our brilliant members to share a slice of their life as they navigate the tightrope of balancing working life with family life and all the while hiding a few harsh realities from their loved ones.
Food insecurity isn’t just about skipping meals. It’s about the mental, emotional, and social burden that comes with it. Too many people are forced to pretend they’re fine, to hide their struggles, because of shame or fear of judgment.
And that’s why we’re calling on the Government to simplify access to financial support to ease the pressure on struggling families with our Slice of Life report. Because no one should have to suffer in silence.
